Tracsis’s ‘significant’ deal with rail group

TRANSPORT software group Tracsis has signed a contract for a major rail operator to use its staff efficiency tools.

The Leeds-based group said the unnamed rail company will use its workforce optimisation software TrainTRACS and TRACS Roster for at least two years.

Tracsis did not put a value on the deal, but said it is “significant”.

The rail firm will use the software during an upcoming period of tendering for rail franchises.

Chief executive John McArthur said: “We are very pleased to have secured this order with a leading European rail-owning group who we have worked with for many years. The contract secures additional software revenue in the mid-term and is a further endorsement of both our team and our evolving technology.”

The company recently posted an increase in half-year revenue and profits, although warned many of its customers are facing cost pressures. In the six months to the end of January, revenues rose to £3.66m, from £1.24m in the same period the year before, which reflected “very strong trading” across the group.

Profit before tax was £1.13m, compared with £127,000 in the same period the previous year.

Tracsis has grown steadily since it was spun out of the University of Leeds’ School of Computing in 2004.

The company’s products allow transport operators to computerise staff and crew scheduling. Its MPEC subsidiary, which was bought in June last year, allows remote monitoring of trackside equipment, reducing maintenance costs for operators.

The company also announced the payment of an interim dividend of 0.2p per share.
