Training deal to boost UK wind power

A YORKSHIRE-based engineering firm is doing its bit to speed up the growth of Britain’s renewables sector.

Hewlett Civil Engineering has entered into an agreement to form a joint venture partnership with Endurance Wind Power UK, to provide training support across the UK in connection with wind turbine installation and maintenance.

Leeds-based Hewlett has developed a training programme in association with Endurance, which is a wind turbine manufacturer.

Alan Cooper, the managing director at Hewlett, said: “The partnership represents a significant international seal of approval for Hewlett and comes at a pivotal point in the development of wind energy here in the UK. It creates a strong presence for Hewlett in the rapidly-growing renewable energy market.

“We are extremely pleased and proud to be involved with Endurance and look forward to leveraging our combined strengths to fuel the growth of the wind sector in the UK.”

Dave Rankin, the director of Endurance Wind Power UK, said: “The development of a sustainable supply chain is a key priority for Endurance, and I am pleased that we are working with Hewlett.

“Developing a training programme is a strategic move to help us grow competent technicians that can respond quickly to the needs of wind turbine installations across the country.”

Hewlett, which was founded in 1987, employs 450 staff. It also recently expanded its operations in the Middle East by opening an office in Muscat, Oman.
