TWL moves into online gaming

FUNDRAISING company The Weather Lottery is branching out into the online gaming market and has signed Championship football side Coventry City as its first partner.

The Doncaster-based company, which raises funds for non-profit organisations such as sports clubs, charities, schools and universities, began its search for new, diverse clients earlier this year.

Yesterday it revealed its expansion into online gaming, under the brand name FCBetz.com. TWL is also considering changing its name to reflect its broader business.

It has signed a multi-year contract with Coventry City to become its gaming partner. Under this contract TWL will provide a package of online gaming products to the club and its supporters.

AIM-listed TWL will also run the Coventry City club lottery under a new football-themed FC Lotto brand.

This contract will begin at the start of the football season with TWL providing gambling in stadium and online. The company expects extra revenues from the deal, and said talks are continuing with several other major football clubs.

"The board expects to make further announcements, in accordance with the AIM rules, of similar contracts with other leading football clubs in the near future."

Chairman Lord Tim Razzall said: "As part of our new strategy, we are delighted to be associated with Coventry City Football Club and hope this will lead to more gaming and lottery partnerships in the extremely popular and exciting football sector."

Earlier this year the group moved back into profit following a sizeable reduction in its cost base.

It reported a pre-tax profit of 13,000 in the six months to January 31, against a loss of 26,000 the previous year.

Other clients of its lottery business include Leeds United FC and Huddersfield Town FC.
