Warehousing switch for furniture giant

Furniture giant DFS has modernised its storage facilities after moving to a newly-refurbished building at Thorp Arch Estate, near Wetherby.

DFS, which has been at the retail park for 32 years, has moved its warehousing into a new building to serve its two retail outlets at the site, The Dining Room Centre and Suite Centre, for which it has recently taken a new 15-year lease.

The building was refurbished with a 600,000 investment by estate owner Rockspring Hanover Property Unit Trust, to create a new 15,000 sq ft warehousing facility and secure yard. The project was overseen by on-site estate management company Wharfedale Property Management.

The work on the unit, originally built in 1941 as part of a Royal Ordnance factory, included demolishing a neighbouring building to create the adjoining yard.

Barry Dennis, commercial director at DFS, which has 79 stores nationwide, including five in Yorkshire, said: "The newly-refurbished warehouse unit at Thorp Arch Estate replaces an older one we used on the estate which remains a good location for us within an established and popular retail park."
