Wedding venue seeks new suitor

A number of potential buyers have expressed an interest in Dam House in Sheffield, which could be used as a wedding venue.

Dam House has been brought to market following the appointment of Andrew Rodger and Roger Phillips from property firm GVA as Law of Property Act (LPA) Receivers by The Royal Bank of Scotland.

The property had been used as a restaurant and bar until it closed last month following the withdrawal of funding.

The property, which overlooks Crookes Valley Park near the University of Sheffield’s city campus, had a large-scale renovation in 2005 following a fire.

A spokesman for GVA said it was understood that the property also benefited from a civil marriage licence.

Alex Sweetman, an associate at GVA, said: “I’m confident that with the correct vision and concept a success can be made of a restaurant and bar operation in this property.

“We are now in a position to bring the property to market and are open to all expressions of interest.”

A spokesman for GVA said the business had been run by a tenant, who also acted as the restaurant’s head chef.

The spokesman added: “There will have been some job losses when it closed, but GVA has confirmed that they’ve already had some interest in the site – they are selling the building for a new business opportunity – which will ultimately create more jobs.”
