William Hill a winner despite winter weather

william Hill, the nation's biggest bookmaker, posted robust sales growth despite last month's big freeze.

Gamblers, operating mostly online and on gaming machines in shops, helped retail turnover grow by 4 per cent in December, and 8 per cent in the fourth quarter, despite the winter weather, which led to nearly half of scheduled UK horseracing meetings being cancelled, including Wetherby, above, where Clerk of the Course Jon Jo Sanderson is seen inspecting the course in December.
