World-class centre is a real eye-opener for Yorkshire

OPTHALMIC services company Optegra has announced the opening of a high street laser eye centre in Yorkshire as part of its expansion across Britain.

The company has also re-launched its Optegra Yorkshire Eye Hospital in Apperley Bridge in West Yorkshire, which it acquired in February 2010.

According to Optegra, the hospital’s refurbishment makes it one of the most advanced in the North for eye care.

It provides laser vision correction and also treatment for conditions such as cataracts and glaucoma. Optegra will today officially open its laser eye centre in Quebec Street, Leeds.

A company spokesman said: “With the capacity to see and treat up to 20 patients a day, the centre provides much-needed expansion for the eye hospital and will become the main centre for laser eye surgery.”

Gareth Steer, the managing director of Optegra, said the opening was the realisation of a year-long plan.

He said: “The Yorkshire Eye Hospital has been an established, and successful, business over the last eight years and we’re very excited to be building on its success and bringing a new level of customer experience.

“We’ve made a considerable investment in terms of equipment and facilities, which, combined with some of the country’s leading ophthalmic surgeons, gives people in Yorkshire the highest quality of treatment and care anywhere in the world.”

Sue Boyes, the hospital manager of the Optegra Yorkshire Eye Hospital, added: “The Optegra Yorkshire Eye Hospital is the only specialist private eye hospital of its kind in the region.

“There are few places in the country which can offer the breadth of treatment, world-class equipment and leading expertise from our surgeons and staff that we can.

“We’re all very excited to see the launch of both centres.”

Apart from the Yorkshire Eye Hospital, Optegra operates four private eye hospitals –- the Surrey Eye Hospital in Guildford, Birmingham Eye Hospital in Aston, the Solent Eye Hospital in Whiteley and the Manchester Eye Hospital, which is due to open latger this month.

Altogether, Optegra employs 140 staff, plus 80 opthalmologists.
