Yorkshire business park which provides employment for 700 people prepares for expansion

One of East Yorkshire’s largest business parks which provides full-time employment for 700 people is ready to expand again after unveiling a series of design and build opportunities.

Dianthus Business Park in Newport, which is owned and operated by Newport Buildings, is already home to companies including JZ Flowers International, QwikFlowers, Royal Lemkes Ltd, William Jackson Food Group, ProGarm and FlamePro.

Following a raft of lettings, it is preparing to expand again after securing planning permission for units ranging from 88,600 sq ft to 212,00 sq ft.

Construction firm Hobson & Porter, also recently completed a £7m project at the site to build two 65,000 sq ft warehouse and distribution units, which are let to Jacksons Bakery and Royal Lemkes.

Hobson & Porter has now built 550,000 sq ft of warehouse and distribution buildings, and more than 35,000 sq ft of office space over the last 10 years at Dianthus Business Park.

Richard Hunter, managing director of Hobson & Porter, said: “We have a long-standing relationship with Newport Buildings and have delivered 10 phases of work to date, worth over £35m, that fit with their exacting standards and vision for their own business, and other businesses on the park.

"We’re now looking forward to exploring further phases at Dianthus Business Park with businesses that recognise the benefits of having a state of the art warehouse or distribution centre, that’s right next to Junction 38 of the A63/M62.”

The phased works have included new-build office accommodation, several large, steel portal frame buildings, distribution and packing lines, dock leveller pods, large hardstanding areas, parking, landscaping and drainage.

The construction of all the buildings have included in-situ concrete foundations, Kingspan cladding, precast first floors with demountable partitions and suspended ceilings.

In addition, external and internal cold room panels have given the buildings a 25-year thermal warranty.

Mr Hunter said: “Through collaboration with the wider project team, we have delivered almost £2m worth of combined value engineering savings across the phases.”

He added: “The buildings also offer exceptional green credentials. These include recycling heat generated by the chiller facilities to heat water and under-floor heating systems for the offices, the installation of a well providing grey water for the toilet flushing, a purpose-built 4.1 acre wetlands that collects rainwater and interior LED lighting fitted with movement detection sensors.”

The latest units are being marketed by Hull-based commercial property specialists, Garness Jones, which handles lettings at Dianthus Business Park.
