Yorkshire Data and Digital Conference 2023: Expert to discuss firms' internal cyber-security risks

An expert talk on protecting companies from internal cyber-security risks is planned as part of next month’s Yorkshire Data & Digital Conference.

The full-day conference, which is being organised by The Yorkshire Post, will take place again at the offices of event partner Flutter in Wellington Place on September 19.

Lianne Potter, from consultancy The AnthroSecurist, will be discussing why security threats can come from inside businesses which are not well prepared.

She said: “When people are under stress, mistakes happen, and people take short cuts, which leads to them becoming one of the hardest advisories to build resilience against – insider threats.

"I will discuss how exciting research can be applied to help you predict if your organisation is likely to engage in risky cyber activities, how to embrace grey area thinking to illuminate your blindspots, and how the tools and methodologies of anthropology can give us a strong foundation to build antho-centric security cultures within your organisation that will enable you to be proactive, not reactive to insider threats.”

The event is sponsored for a second year in a row by healthcare technology company TPP, whose founder and CEO Frank Hester will give an opening address.

The conference will be a featured event for the wider Leeds Digital Festival which is taking place across the city at the same time.
