Yorkshire firms open their doors for new event

A DIGITAL innovation festival is making its debut in Yorkshire this week, showcasing seven start-ups, entrepreneurs and businesses to the public.

OpenCo is being rolled out in cities across the country, including Sheffield, on October 2 following last year’s London-only event.

The free one-day event will enable the public to see what happens behind the curtains of the UK’s most creative companies.

Sheffield’s OpenCo event is being co-ordinated by Dotforge, a startup accelerator for digital and social enterprises. It will include 40-minute sessions from The Floow a telematics service provider; Withers & Rogers, which provides intellectual property protection services; and telecoms provider Ask4.

The companies will share the stories behind their business, their vision as well as any new projects or developments they are working on.

Simultaneous events in Manchester, London, Birmingham, Bristol & Bath and Liverpool will take the total number of HostCo’s across the UK to over 100.

Emma Cheshire, Dotforge programme director, said: ‘OpenCo will allow Sheffield’s entrepreneurs, future talent, investors and influencers a unique opportunity to learn more about our city’s home-grown businesses. “Attendees will gain an unprecedented insight into why Sheffield is fast-emerging as one of the UK’s leading digital innovation hubs.”
