Bradford primary rated as outstanding in all areas by Ofsted

A PRIMARY school has been rated as outstanding by Ofsted and praised for the excellent progress of those pupils who enter the school 'speaking little or no English.'

Farnham Primary School, in Bradford, is also praised for the education it provides for children from disadvantaged backgrounds.

The school is rated as outstanding in all inspection areas, including leadership and management, teaching and learning, outcomes for pupils and early years provision.

The report says that the school has a higher proportion of pupils on free school meals than the national average. It also say almost all pupils have English as a second language. Most pupils at the school are of Pakistani heritage.

Inspectors praise all aspects of the school’s work. The report says: “School leaders have the highest expectations of adults and pupils. They demand the best, and staff deliver.

”Teachers’ high expectations and skilful teaching secure pupils’ hard work and great commitment to learning. Well-deployed and trained support staff make a terrific contribution to pupils’ progress and welfare.”

 It adds: “Pupils make strong and sustained progress in their learning in all subjects and across the whole age range.” Ofsted says that many pupils who speak little or no English when they join the school go on to make exceptional progress. The report also highlights pupils’ personal development as being outstanding. It says leaders, teachers and other leaders instil self-confidence and resilience in pupils.

And it says children behave exceptionally well in lessons.

Inspectors also praise the early years at the school.

It says that the high quality provision for two-year-olds gives children a flying start and prepares them well for nursery.
