Gove meeting fails to halt schools strike

TWO major teaching unions have vowed to press ahead with school strike action over pay and pensions next Thursday after holding talks with Education Secretary Michael Gove.

The National Union of Teachers and the NASUWT had called on Mr Gove to halt his plans to scrap the national pay structure and to publish a valuation of the teachers’ pension scheme, which is set to be reformed.

Unions object to changes which they say will mean teachers pay in more and receive less. In a statement yesterday the unions said no progress towards a resolution had been made and that a strike in the North West would go ahead.
