School appeal wins U-turn from Ofsted

A NORTH Yorkshire school is celebrating after Ofsted inspectors who branded it “inadequate” made a dramatic U-turn following an appeal.

Raincliffe School, in Scarborough, had lodged a formal complaint with the education watchdog following the inspection which claimed it needed to improve.

The school says the original grading placed “considerable pressure” on teachers and staff.

Now Ofsted has upgraded the school to satisfactory and apologised for its original decision.

A North Yorkshire County Council spokesman said: “We felt the judgment was made without secure inspection evidence.

“Ofsted has upheld this view and apologised for the errors which were made and any stress that may have been caused.”

An Ofsted spokesman said: The school’s overall judgment was changed to satisfactory after detailed consideration of the evidence.”
