Students returning to the classroom

STUDENTS at a leading university have gone back to the classroom to encourage pupils to consider the world of higher education for themselves.

Sheffield University’s Student Associates scheme allows both undergraduates and post- graduates to visit primary and secondary schools around the city to take part in work- shops.

The associates also assist teachers with lessons, providing students with the opportunity to gain valuable work exper- ience.

Stacey Mottershaw, the university’s Aim Higher project assistant, said: “We have had a very successful three week placement with our student associates going into local schools, assisting teachers with lessons and performing widening participation activities.

“The scheme represents a positive and effective way in which the students of today can help to raise the aspirations and attainment of young people and the potential students of tomorrow.”

There were 16 schools across the city taking part in the workshops during the last month of the school year.
