Triplets make the grade with first choice universities

George Ellaby, 18, and his sisters Alex and Zoe from Blubberhouses will all fly the nest next month after they each made the grade. The siblings opened their results together at Ashville College in Harrogate. George, who was awarded an A in business studies and Bs in business and government and politics, will go to Manchester University to study international management with American business studies.

He said: “We have been in the same school all the way through. Having two sisters has kept me on my toes especially as they are both brighter than me even if the results don’t fully show it.

It’s been a tense time waiting for the results so I think we’re all just relieved it’s finally here.

“We’ve all got into our first choice of university we couldn’t have asked for much more.”

Alex achieved straight As in economics, French and maths and will go to Durham University to study economics with French.

Meanwhile Zoe matched George’s results, also getting an A and two Bs. She achieved an A in English literature and Bs in history and psychology. She faced an anxious wait but discovered this secured her a place at her first choice Edinburgh to study history.

George added: “Seeing Alex work hard motivated me to get my head down and she taught me to get through.

“My mum operated a tight ship, there wasn’t much free time allowed, so it’s good to see it’s paid off.”

The triplets all discovered they had made it into university at home this morning, before rushing to school to get their results.

“We all got on our laptops and kept pressing refresh until we got the good news,” said George.

“There was an air of relief in our house when we found out we’d all made it.

“Our parents are really pleased. I think they will be sad to see us all go. Three came at once and three will leave together. We’re all very excited.”

George said the family were celebrating with breakfast at Betty’s Tea Rooms in Harrogate before going out with friends to mark their success.
