Bosses in talks over NHS changes

Talks will be held in Calderdale and Huddersfield over the future shape of the NHS in the area where a bitter row has broken out over A&E care, with full services in Halifax or Huddersfield likely to be axed.

Now officials including hospital chiefs will hold informal talks with local people who will be given the chance to say what they want from the full range of NHS services.

GP Alan Brook, chairman of NHS Calderdale Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG), said: “These events are aimed at giving people the opportunity to share their views on how they think the NHS in the area should look in the future.

“We understand there is concern about the possibility of change however this needs to be balanced with what will happen if nothing changes.

“The CCG, which is responsible for making decisions on these issues, will only make ones which result in improvements in care for our population.

“We want to be sure the ideas for change reflect the public’s views and we are keen to hear how services should be shaped.”

Following the sessions, officials will draw up proposals over the future of services which will be subject to a formal public consultation.

The events from May 28 to June 12 will be held in Salendine Nook, Slaithwaite, Mytholmroyd, Fartown, Brighouse, Kirkburton, Halifax, Ovenden, Homfirth and Todmorden. People can also share their views by filling in a questionnaire at www.rightcaretimeplace.co.uk.
