More than 8,000 coronavirus cases now confirmed in Yorkshire

A total of 8,326 people in Yorkshire have now tested positive for coronavirus.

The latest update from the Department of Health, which counts cases confirmed before 12.30am today, shows a rise of 398 cases in Yorkshire since the same time on Thursday.

Sheffield is the worst-hit local authority area, with 1,856 confirmed cases, followed by Leeds with 1,111 cases.

In the UK, the total number of lab-confirmed cases is 143,464.

The death toll in UK hospitals now stands at 19,506, with 1,371 deaths confirmed in Yorkshire hospitals.
