Couple to take top jobs at troubled NHS trust

A HUSBAND and wife have been appointed to top jobs running a troubled NHS trust in Yorkshire.

Chris Reed becomes interim chief executive at Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust, which has been struggling with waiting time and financial targets, to replace Maggie Boyle, who has left after five years. His wife, Karen Straughair, takes a new role as recovery director.

Mr Reed was previously chief executive of the primary care trust cluster for Newcastle, North Tyneside and Northumberland while Ms Straughair was most recently chief executive of a neighbouring cluster for Gateshead, South Tyneside and Sunderland.

The couple said: “We are very pleased to be joining the trust and look forward to working with staff and trust partners on a challenging agenda over the next weeks and months.”
