These are troubling times that we’re now living in, and most people are experiencing high levels of stress and anxiety.

Everyone responds to stress in different ways, with some people relatively untouched whilst others are reacting very badly to it, but because of the uncertainty of the present situation it’s hard not to feel uptight in some way.

A constant feeling of anxiety fills the body with stress chemicals such as cortisol and adrenaline which causes a lowering of the immune system.

However, it is possible to do something to reduce the levels of stress, and hypnotherapy is an ideal and easy way to feel calmer and more in control.

For most people, experiencing hypnosis is a very pleasant process. This is because one of the main elements of hypnosis, whether a therapist hypnotises you or if you use self-hypnosis, is a state of relaxation.

When we are in hypnosis the body and mind are able to relax, and whilst this is happening the body’s feelgood chemicals (the endorphins) are naturally released into the blood stream, helping to create feelings of peacefulness and ease. The immune system is boosted too as a result, helping to keep us healthier.

With regular practice these feelings of relaxation stay for longer periods of time and deeper states of relaxation can be achieved too. When we are in this state the subconscious mind comes to the fore and can be easily programmed to receive suggestions of calmness and well-being.

Once we begin to use our subconscious mind, it becomes easier to remain more relaxed on a day-to-day basis and to take control of our stress response.

Hypnosis is a natural process.

Usually when we use hypnosis or self-hypnosis we are sitting or lying in a comfortable position with our eyes closed, from time to time focussing on our breathing and also allowing our bodies to relax. Our mind begins to let go of busy thoughts and feelings of serenity are able to flow through the body and mind.
