Based in the grounds of St James’s Hospital in Leeds, the team of highly qualified experts provide life changing support in group sessions, workshops and one to one.

The team includes their Cancer Support Specialists who are all oncology nurses by background. They are there to listen to how you are feeling, answer any questions you might have and guide you to the right information. A Psychologist is there if things are getting on top of you, if you are scared, worried or feeling down. A Benefits Advisor can tell you what you’re entitled to and help with practical things like parking permits and the extra money you might be able to claim.

The team know that people with cancer are being hit harder with the cost of living crisis. A recent study by Maggie’s showed that 1 in 2 people are considering stopping treatment early because of money worries, and over three quarters of feel that the crisis is affecting their chances of a successful treatment. In 2022, our Benefits Advisors provided over 2,400 sessions of support which delivered more than £1,344,000 in financial gains for people with cancer and their loved ones.

The support of our community ensures that they can continue to provide these vital services for free.

Maggie’s Yorkshire is funded entirely from donations from members of the public, fundraising and donations from businesses and gifts in wills.

There are lots of ways that you can get involved in supporting your local centre. That could be through fundraising at work, putting on one of your own events or taking part in one of their events.

There are lots of exciting plans for 2024- including a golf day, an abseil and an afternoon tea at the centre. If you are interested in getting to know them before the new year, there are tickets available for the Maggie’s Yorkshire Roaring Twenties Ball on 11th November at The Queens Hotel. Tickets are available to purchase until 23rd October on their website.
