Julie Saunders was with her son Jack who was meant to be having surgery on his hand. She said he called her attention to a mouse at the door.

At first she thought he was kidding her, until she saw one “poke his head out.”

She added; “The nurses stopped what they were doing and 20 minutes later said the operations were cancelled and they were sending everyone home.”

A spokesman at Hull and East Yorkshire Hospitals NHS Trust said: “We can confirm there has been an isolated incident within our Day Surgery Unit today where it appears a field mouse has made its way in to the department. As a result, several operations have been postponed.
