Police launch inquiry into baby’s death

POLICE are investigating after a baby boy died at Leeds General Infirmary three days after he was born at Pinderfield’s Hospital in Wakefield.

West Yorkshire Police have confirmed they are examining the circumstances of baby Billy Wilson’s death.

The investigation is understood to be focusing on the care Billy received in hospital.

The YEP understands Billy was born in Pinderfields Hospital on November 27 2013 and transferred to Leeds General Infirmary where he died on November 30.

Det Chief Insp Adrian Taylor of West Yorkshire Police, said: “We have received a coroner’s referral and we are currently investigating the circumstances of the death.”

A spokesman for the Mid Yorkshire Hospitals NHS Trust, which runs Pinderfields Hospital, said: “Whenever tragic circumstances such as the death of a baby occur we always co-operate fully with the relevant authorities to assist their investigation. It would be inappropriate to comment any further at this time.”

A spokesman for Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust, which runs the LGI, said: “We are sorry for the family’s loss and wish to offer our sincere condolences.

“The case has been referred by the coroner to West Yorkshire Police, who are carrying out an investigation. It would therefore be inappropriate to comment further.”
