Regiments from Yorkshire to take part in the Queen's funeral procession

Armed forces personnel from North Yorkshire's Catterick Garrison are among those to take a central role supporting the Queen's funeral at Westminster on Monday.

Four units from the Richmond base, as well as the British Army Band Catterick, are to take a place on the world stage to say a final farewell to a Queen who has for so long held their allegiance. Regiments include the Royal Lancers, the 4th Battalion the Royal Regiment of Scotland, the 1st Battalion Scots Guard and the 5th Regiment Royal Artillery.

It is thought they could be part of the funeral procession but iis not clear what exact roles they will play.

Earlier this week, young soldiers from Harrogate's Army Foundation College were among the first in the country to swear allegiance to the King.

On Sunday evening, some 211 junior entry soldiers swore the oath of allegiance, signifying their enlistment into the British Army.

They became some of the first service personnel within the Army to swear the oath to King Charles III.

More than 1,000 sailors and Royal Marines are undergoing final preparations for their pivotal role in the Queen’s funeral after days of intensive training.

Early morning dress rehearsals for the Army have been held in the capital over recent days, in preparation for the ceremony expected to be among the most watched broadcasts in history.

In extraordinary images, Foot Guards of the Household Division were seen lined up in front of the Queen Victoria Memorial at 3am.

Musicians filed in time outside Buckingham Palace, while the bands of the Scots Guard marched along the Mall.

Music is to play a pivotal role in this celebration of the Queen’s reign, and affiliation with the Armed Forces.
