Meet me at the corner of the bar

THE day legends Lindisfarne dropped in at the local

This PICTURE, which appeared in the March 29 1985 edition of the Wakefield Express, shows British folk/rock group Lindisfarne stopping off in the city for a pint in Henry Boons pub in Westgate.

The band were spotted by trainee brewer Ian Caines, 19, who invited them into the pub for a pint and also offered them a tour of Clarks Brewery. He said: “I’m a big fan of the band. I have seen them twice in concert.”

Drummer Ray Laidlaw said: “It’s our last day off before August. We have played two concerts at Nostell Priory and have always had a good time in Wakefield, so we decided to spend the day here.”

Lindisfarne played at the Wakefield Pussycat Club on Tuesday March 26, 1985, before ending their British tour.

The band, whose hits include Fog on the Tyne, Lady Eleanor and Meet me on the Corner, were also planning a big Christmas tour.
