nostalgia: When ground was a match for Headingley

CRICKET lovers from Harrogate will have fond memories of the time when Yorkshire played competitively at St George’s Road. The Harrogate Cricket Festival – or Tilcon Festival as it became known – was a highlight in the County Championship calendar with hundreds flocking to watch the cream of the crop.

Hardcore Yorkshire fans will recognise a few famous faces in this picture after a fresh-faced Darren Gough took a wicket in their league fixture against Gloucestershire 15 years ago. Sadly Harrogate is no longer on the competitive county circuit. That honour is reserved for Headingley and Scarborough. However there is hope the White Rose outfit will make a return to the ground, which is now used as a headquarters by Yorkshire Ladies and for some 2nd XI fixtures.
