Bunnies are breeding in the home

EASTER is nearly upon us and bunnies are everywhere. Interior designer Jamie Hempsall reports on rabbit-inspired gifts for the home.

I love adding the odd visual joke into my schemes, something that is not immediately obvious, but that draws someone in to enjoy a private chuckle once their eyes alight on it.

Of course, there are also many bunny lovers out there and this is an ideal time to find something perfect to add to their home collection – whether they are young or old.

Cottontails seem to feature quite heavily in lighting, where they definitely make a witty impact in schemes for any room.

One of my personal favourites is the gorgeous Black Rabbit Lamp created by the Dutch design house Moooi. This is a unique and quirky piece of modern design – making the perfect urban pet that requires little looking after, but draws plenty of attention, (£295 – www.frenchbedroomcompany.co.uk; 08456 448022).

Younger admirers can also bathe in the comforting, warm glow of the White Rabbit night light, an adorable bunny design made from Fine Bone China in England.

The light shines through the china to give a soothing natural light which is perfect for a children’s bedside table, (£59 – www.whiterabbitengland.com; 01625 419622).

The rabbit is a key feature in a lot of children’s interior products.

If you introduce them into a scheme, ensure the reproduction will be age-appropriate for a couple of years to avoid creating an instant white elephant!

Younger children, who are just beginning to learn to tell the time, will love the Lula Bunny Clock (featured here in coral, but available in other colours) which is made from sustainably sourced birch plywood.

The design is attractive, while clear numbers make it easy to read and the clock has been fitted with a quiet movement to reduce any “tick tock” sound. (£30 – www.hunkydoryhome.co.uk; 0191 645 4004).

Older children are more likely to find the Rabbit Blackboard Sticker both useful for making notes and visually appealing.

You can usually remove stickers without leaving much of a mark when you want to update your scheme. (£29 – www.decosticker.co.uk; 0870 961 9242).

After it is lights out, keep you books in order with a pair of Rustic Rabbit Bookends from Artisanti.

They are manufactured in a mottled brown finish resin and would definitely not look out of place in either a town or country home, (£52 – www.artisanti.com; 0845 259 1410).

Mind you, if all of this is too exhausting to consider and you just want to lie out in the Easter sun, then all you really need to do is stretch out on the Rabbit & Cabbage Canvas Deckchair designed by Thornback and Peel and hand-printed in the UK, (£130 – www.rume.co.uk; 01273 777 810).

And if all else fails you might just have to resort to the good old chocolate egg, or Easter Bunny, of course.
