Cat people - a very different breed from their dog-loving counterparts, but just because you prefer a feline friend to canine companion does not mean you have to miss out. In big cats, there are some highly affectionate and loyal breeds to choose that display many of the playful temperament characteristics that dogs often show. Only, as cat people well know, cats are often lower maintenance and higher satisfaction. So here are some of the big cat breeds to look out for, and some info on what you can expect from them.
5. Norwegian Forest Cat
A big old pussy cat, this one. As gentle as it is affectionate, and will bound from ridiculous heights without fear or hesitation. Quite a sight. But this one won't play for long - they love a quite spot in the home to sleep ... a lot! But if you've a busy home with other pets and kids, he'll fit right in. Photo: Adobe Stock
6. Manx Cat
Yorkshire folk are renowned for their sense of humour, and the Manx Cat is hilarious. Whether she's chatting away in her distinctive voice, or guarding the door from the postman, life isn't dull with a Manx. Contrary to popular belief - not all Manx Cats have no tail, but tail or not, don't leave her alone for long or mischief will occur. Photo: Adobe Stock
7. Persian Cat
Ah, the stereotypical Bond baddy cat of choice, but it couldn't be any less evil if it tried. A people watcher who loves a lazy lifestyle and isn't shy about showing those whose face don't fit the cold shoulder. Playful enough, but more likely to spot a ray of sunshine warming the sofa and plonk itself on there. Photo: Adobe Stock
