Celebrities, influencers, sportspeople and Yorkshire dignitaries alike were the first to try out one of Europe’s largest indoor play centres which opened to the public on Saturday July 23.

Anticipation has been building for the launch of the themed £3.5 million The Playhive at Stockeld Park in Wetherby near Harrogate.

With a climatic rollercoaster of a week with the weather, starting with the record-breaking heatwave and ending in cool drizzle, this all-weather alternative to “traditional soft play centres,” the Playhive is already proving popular.

“It’s really really impressive they've done an amazing job. I can see why people are so excited by it,” said TV star Helen Skelton who attended the adventure park’s official opening.

What is it?

The 20,000 square foot play centre has a capacity for up to 2,000 visitors per day, with four play zones to explore - Space, Aeronautical, Underwater and Jungle and it is expected to bring in £7 million to the local economy.

“It’s a themed journey inside as you move from one area to the other,” explained Stockeld Park’s Peter Grant.

Mr Grant who owns the 2,000-acre Stockeld estate with wife Susie had been developing the Playhive for a number of years which became a Lockdown passion project.

How much does it cost?

While you could easily spend half a day in the Playhive alone, you do need to purchase a full access pass to Stockeld Adventure Park (starting from £10 per person) with an additional fee for the Playhive.

In total it works out £19.50-£23.00 per person for the Adventure Park and Playhive depending on whether you want an allotted slot or anytime pass for the Playhive.

Under twos are free and so is car parking and to keep costs down you can bring your own picnic.
