Support offered to Kirklees nurseries and pre-schools in bid to welcome back more children

Kirklees Council has staged an important event for the borough's early years providers to help them plan for welcoming back more children.

Many nurseries, pre-schools, childminders and out of school clubs joined an online conference which provided advice and guidance on the public health issues linked to Covid-19.

Senior managers from the council’s Children’s Services and Public Health teams were on hand to answer questions and discuss the pressing issues.

Coun Carole Pattison, Cabinet member for Learning, Aspiration and Communities, said: “We are hugely committed to supporting the early years sector as we all move together into the next phase of Covid-19.

“Many settings have stayed open throughout the pandemic and have done wonderful work for local families. The government have now asked more providers to open and, as with schools bringing back more pupils, safety is the absolute priority.

“Early years providers don’t just give vital support to some of our youngest children. Their availability also brings economic benefits as it means families can entrust their children to highly trained professionals while they go to work.

“It is our view that no setting should open until the time is right for its staff and families. We are helping them through the complex task of welcoming children in the safest possible way.”

Each setting is making its own arrangements, supported by the council, so parents are advised to contact their early years provider direct for more information.
