On the grapevine

Just six days to go until the male population takes up residence on the sofa. Next week I will be giving a match-by-match guide to what should be on hand during the World Cup, but it is worthwhile stocking up with a few English wines to cheer on our team. Marks and Spencer has a fantastic English Rosé 2009 from Chapel Down in Kent, made from a huge variety of grapes including Pinot Noir, Rondo and Regent.

Whisky lounge

Spanish spotlight

Great Northern Wine in Ripon will hold a tasting of quality Spanish wines on Wednesday, June 9, at 7pm. There will be tapas, and wines from Sierra Cantabria and San Vicente from Rioja, as well as the new Almirez from the Eguren Brothers. Tickets cost 15, call 01765 606767 for details.
