On the grapevine

Our Wine Club supplier has bought up the stock of a recession-hit importer. It means that this month we have been able to include two bottles of the fabulous Macon Uchizy 2008 from Domaine Talmard. It has clear Burgundian style with plump, rounded fruit and clear, balancing acidity.

It is the perfect wine for summer lunches. Also in the case is a terrific Chardonnay from the cool-climate Leyda valley and a fruitier Australian Chardonnay. The reds are good, too, with Cabernet flavours from Italy, Chile and Australia.

Holiday planning

If you are planning your summer holiday with the idea of taking in a few vineyards on the way, you might find a specialist website useful. www.winetravelguides.com offers key travel information on the wine areas of France and some parts of Italy and Spain. The pages are free to view but if you want to download and print them there is a small fee. Otherwise you can subscribe for 29.
