James Goodhart at Bon Coeur Fine Wine in Masham has snapped up a private cellar. There are more than 200 cases of predominately good claret with some port and champagne. Examples include Beychevelle 2000 at £850, Prieuré Lichine 2001 at £255 and La Lagune 1995 at £390. There is also a long list of single bottles. Wine courses

Martinez Wines in Ilkley starts a new WSET Intermediate wine course on September 6. It runs from 4pm until 8pm for four consecutive weeks and costs 350, including books, wine tasting and the examination which is a recognised wine trade qualification. Ring 01943 600000 for details.

York Food Festival

York Food Festival runs from September 17 to 26 and features a packed programme of dinners, tastings and demonstrations, with the market running throughout. Drinks events include my Champagne tasting on Saturday, 25th, a St Emilion dinner on Thursday, 23, lunchtime tastings with Karen Hardwick and the return of Charles Metcalfe, who matches sherry and tapas, on Saturday, 18.
