Pub of the Week: Three B's in Bridlington is a welcoming micropub in an old sweet shop
My only real criticism of micropubs is that so few of them offer food. They all do crisps and nuts but I always insist that a pub’s not a proper pub without a pork pie or a curled up cheese sandwich under a cloche on the bar top.
A delight it was then to walk into the Three B’s (their apostrophe) in Brid. For there, on a chalk board was the food special of the day – pie and peas. Thanks to a microwave and a bit of effort, punters are able to enjoy a simple but classic dish to go with their pint. I went for sausage roll and peas as the pies hadn’t materialised from the local butcher that day

The Three B’s is a former sweet shop in the middle of the town, run by husband-and-wife team Mark and Cheryl Bates.
Both CAMRA members, they sold their house and moved from the Midlands to create the kind of pub they would want to drink in themselves. And a grand job they’ve done of it.
Despite opening just a fortnight before lockdown, the Bates’s have battled through and now find themselves with a thriving pub and attached 3-bed B&B. That’s two more Bs, making five in total.

I can see myself visiting again in the summer months, pointing the kids toward the beach and settling into a schair outside with an endless stream of cider and pie and peas. Bliss.
