Off the shelf

Here is this week's top pick of good value bottles to savour

Inycon Sicilia Chardonnay Viognier 2009, Sicily, Tesco down from 8.99 to 4.49 until October 5. Seriously challenged at its full price, this wine moves into bargain territory at half price. With honeysuckle aromas and layers of melon and citrus fruit and a pleasant crisp finish.

Ch Briot Rouge 2008, Bordeaux, Morrisons down from 7.49 to 5.49 until October 3. It is difficult to find a good, inexpensive Bordeaux but Morrisons have done well with this soft, velvety red full of red berry fruits and just a touch of green leafy aromas.

Tesco Finest Argentina Mendoza Malbec 2008, down from 6.99 to 5.24 until October 5. Terrific bramble fruit in this deep-flavoured wine made by Catena, one of Argentina's top companies. It has spent 12 months in oak, but that hardly shows against the sheer concentration.

Greenpoint Ros 2005, Australia, Majestic down from 19.49 to 12.99 until September 27. Sealed with a crown cork, just to be different, but the quality is in the wine not the package. A delicious pale pink mousse, wild red berry fruit and lovely harmonious flavours.
