Here is this week's top pick of good value bottles to savour

Spy Mountain Sauvignon Blanc 2009, New Zealand, Tesco Down from 7.99 to 5.99 until February 23. The name comes from the huge "golf balls" scattered across the hillside in this hilly part of the Wairau Valley, but they don't affect the flavour of this vibrant, citrus-charged wine with a touch of tropical fruit.

"The Best" Chilean Carmenre, Morrisons, down from 6.99 to 4.99 until January 31. Most Chilean Carmenres have a dollop of Cabernet to add structure but this is just one grape variety, soft, luscious and full of soft, sweet, spice-edged mulberry fruit. Perfect with any winter casserole.

Monte Nobile Reserva Squinzano 2005, Puglia, Italy, Tesco down from 8.99 to 4.49 until February 2. When I first tasted this wine, I was impressed by its deep rich, black pepper-dusted plums and chocolate fruit, but the price was much too high. Now they have brought the wine into its comfort zone, so stock up and enjoy through the winter chill.

Codorniu Teresa Rosado Brut, Cava, Spain, Morrisons down from 8.99 to 5.99 until January 31. Get ready to toast the first daffodil you see popping up through the snow, frost and general grime of winter. The soft strawberry fruit of this fizz will remind you that spring is just around the corner.
