The Eagle & Child, York: The Yorkshire pub which is a Leeds Brewery revival of a 17th-century inn
Let's skip forward to now and revisit on a glorious summer's day when York and the Eagle and Child were buzzing. How different it looks seven years on, time has certainly helped.
Leeds Brewery took over the empty 1642 timbered building following the success of their sister pub, the Duke of York, in Kings Square despite the opposition that York did not need another pub or bar.

The age, architecture and location of the Eagle on High Petergate have to be a big draw on its popularity, with the lovely glimpse of the Minster peeping above the black and white timber-framed building opposite from the front window.
There are three floors to explore, and each has lovely comfy seating areas to hunker down in. Plus, the climb to the third is worth seeing for the Rolling Stone's autograph on the wall alone.
A range of Leeds brews is available, but not exclusively with other breweries, including Beavertown, Kirkstall, Theakston, Northern Monk and more. There's a decent wine list, with many of them by the glass; some are vegan though none are listed as organic.

The main menu is hefty, with a wide range of choices, including vegetarian and vegan options too.
From its shaky start, seeing how the Eagle has settled and is now an essential part of the York pub scene is great.
