Buyers get set for launch of Hull's Fruit Market homes

Interest in Hull's property market has burgeoned thanks to its City of Culture status, which helped show those from outside the area what they had been missing.Hull has some of the lowest house prices in Yorkshire, along with a spectacular setting by the Humber estuary, a magnificent bridge, characterful city centre, significant cultural offering and easy access to the beautiful East coast and the Wolds. Leeds is just over an hour away.

Proof of the city’s heightened appeal can be found at the Fruit Market, a mixed use development of bars, restaurants, galleries, shops and 101 homes. It has been billed as Hull’s “first urban village.”

Regeneration company Wykeland Group and leading housebuilder Beal Homes are working in partnership with Hull City Council to regenerate the area and the £17m residential scheme is part of the £80m transformation of the waterfront quarter.

So far over there have been over 2,000 registrations of interest in the homes and would-be buyers are all waiting for the answer to one question: “How much will the properties cost?” This will be revealed at a launch next weekend, January 20 and 21, when reservations will also be taken. The first townhouses and apartments will be ready for occupation by the end of the year.

The Fruit Market has already seen the opening of new businesses over the past 18 months, including Ambiente Tapas, Buca di Pizza and Butler Whites.

Richard Beal, Chairman of Beal Homes, said: “This will be a residential development unlike anything seen previously in Hull or East Yorkshire.”

Bob Beercock, Managing Director of Beercocks estate agency, added: “The location is just fantastic and Hull has been screaming out for a development like this for years. We have one of the best assets in the North of England in the Marina and all the waterfront around it and, for the first time in a long time, we’re exploiting it from a residential perspective. Look at cities like Liverpool, Manchester and Leeds - they all offer lots of opportunities to live by water and that’s very appealing.”
