Interior designer Ben Huckerby has put his glamorous apartment in Leeds on the market

Style is often lacking in Leeds city centre apartments but this sensational penthouse at sought-after Regents Quay, Brewery Wharf, has it in abundance. It’s no surprise that it gets 11 out 10 for glamorous good looks as it belongs to well-known interior designer Ben Huckerby. The spacious flat is decorated in his trademark style, which is opulent but cosy and relaxed. He bought it four-and-a-half years ago after a long wait for “the one” and it is now for sale for £895,000.

“I was renting a flat above in the same block and I was waiting for this place to come on the market because of its size and the views.“I also wanted to stay at Brewery Wharf because it has a lovely village feel,” says Ben, who studied interior architecture at university and cut his teeth on transforming Carr Hall Castle in Halifax. The castle won the title “Britain’s Best Home” and Ben’s services have been sought-after ever since.

His apartment reflects his attention to detail and love of texture and subtle pattern though the property couldn’t be more different to the way it looked when he first got the keys.

“It was just another white box with fittings that the developers put in ten years ago so I redecorated straight away,” he says.He has since given it a major makeover, which included moving walls, changing ceiling heights and turning a third bedroom into a luxurious dressing room.

He is leaving to move to a house in a Leeds suburb but is taking many happy memories with him.“I’ve enjoyed every minute of living here. Being in the city centre allows you to be spontaneous as everything is on the doorstep and it is only a six minute walk to my office but it’s time for a change of lifestyle,” he says.

The apartment, which has Lutron lighting, a Sonos sound system and underfloor heating, has a hallway with velvet corner seat and a cloakroom. This leads to an open plan dining kitchen with breakfast bar and built-in wine cooler, along with integrated appliances including a Siemens steam oven and warming drawer. There is also a built-in bar area with wine unit, display shelving and cupboards.

The living area is dual aspect with large windows and a door leading out to the roof terrace, which has views over the River Aire and Leeds city centre.

The master bedroom suite with feature raised ceiling and lighting has an en-suite shower room with steam shower cubicle and built-in television. There is also a fully-fitted dressing room and a second bedroom.

Outside, the south-facing roof terrace has outdoor speakers and lighting. There is underground parking for one vehicle, a concierge and Regent’s Quay has a residents gym with sauna. For details on Ben's apartment contact: Fine & Country estate agents, tel: 0113 203 4939, www.fineandcountry.com
