Yellow really is the colour of spring, but few people seem to grow this little yellow beauty.

Anemone ranunculoides is named because of its similarity to the humble buttercup.

Its deeply-cut dark green foliage provides the perfect backdrop for the vivid yellow blooms.

Plant it in moist but well-drained soil rich in leafmould. A site in partial shade is ideal, so in woodland is ideal.

Anemone ranunculoides grows to just four inches in height but can spread to form eye-catching colonies.
