The strikingly modern properties are stone built around a steel frame with zinc roofs and glass-fronted balconies and high-spec interiors. The development offers parking and gardens with secure, electric-gated access. Bespoke glazing has been use to maximise natural light.
Fawcett’s Mews has been a two-year labour of love for the scheme’s developer Robin Vauvelle, who lives in a neighbouring street and had seen the 5,300 sq ft disused Fawcett’s joiner’s yard fall into dilapidation over recent years. “The site was becoming an eyesore and a lot of people felt it was a huge shame that the land wasn’t being used for something useful so when it came up for sale I decided to take the plunge. Town centre housing is very much in demand in Harrogate and this is an ideal site, close to all the amenities that make the town such a great place to live.”

“Ric is particularly known for creating properties that exude calm and are flooded with natural light in every room, and that’s very much what we aimed to create here,” said Mr Vauvelle.
Ric Blenkharn said: “I took a lead from the strength and presence of St Robert’s, with the terracotta cladding tiles and zinc roofing on the houses matching the church. There’s also a saw-tooth detail banding along the top of the church walls, which reflects in the saw tooth profile of the houses.”

We’ve had a great deal of interest and people are incredibly impressed when they see how a modern design is juxtaposed against the traditional stone houses to create a contrast that complements both styles of building.”
Mr Vauvelle said: “Braver, bolder modern design is something we need to see more of in our northern towns and cities in my opinion. I think we’ve proved that it’s not something to be scared of and can work really well when the design values are right.”
