It’s clear that Gordon Gibb is going to miss his home in Ebberston but a growing family is forcing a move.
“I love the house. It has a lot of charm and one of the best things about it is that the garden backs onto Chafer wood and the North York Moors National Park.
“It’s a beautiful place and very quiet. You can walk for miles and not see another soul. You also know that because it is National Park land it will never be built on,” says Gordon, who bought the The Lodge in 2003.
The location is within easy travelling distance of his business, Flamingo Land, near Malton, and close to Scarborough, where he plans to redevelop the site of Futurist Theatre into a £20m indoor theme park.
Over the past 15 years, he has refurbished his historic cottage and extended it to create a self-contained annexe and a leisure wing with a gym, swimming pool, Jacuzzi and sauna.
He says: “It’s a very relaxing place to live and I’ll be sorry to see it go but I now have more children and need somewhere bigger.”
The property has a reception hall, drawing room, sitting room, dining room, living room and a breakfast kitchen with bespoke, handmade units. The ground floor also has a utility room and a cloakroom/shower room.
On the first floor, there is a master bedroom with dressing area and en-suite bathroom, four further bedrooms and a house bathroom.
The leisure wing has a pool, sauna, jacuzzi and gym, along with integrated audio-visual systems,
The one-bedroom annexe has a bedroom, bathroom and kitchen.
Outside, there is extensive, secure private parking, a terrace and large, south-facing gardens with an orchard and views across the Vale of Pickering. The fenced paddock is 4.63 acres and backs onto Chafer Wood, a nature reserve where the Yorkshire Wildlife Trust has worked hard to reintroduce native wildlife, fauna and flora.
Estate agent Nick Talbot of Jackson Stops says: “The Lodge is a very attractive country house providing impressive accommodation of a manageable size that has been sympathetically improved and carefully extended by the current owners.”
