Electric hotplates and heaters were delivered to vulnerable people left without gas.

A spokesman for Northern Gas Networks said engineers were working hard to resolve the problem and that gas supplies had been restored to some homes.

Members of the public were invited to drop into the village’s Mechanics Institute for further information and refreshments.

Kirklees Council said staff were helping the elderly and other vulnerable people.
