27 more prisoners released by mistake
The Government said last night that it had identified another 27 prisoners who have been let out of jail by mistake – taking the total to 219 in the last five years.
Minister Maria Eagle said not all of those freed were unlawfully at large as they may have been unconvicted or released on a valid licence. But she pointed to 12 surviving ex-prisoners who had no further contact with the criminal justice system after release.
