Affordable homes boost for families

HUNDREDS of families across Yorkshire are set to benefit from 800 new affordable homes from social housing provider, Yorkshire Housing.

Recent funding allocation from the Government’s Affordable Homes Programme means the provider can develop a minimum of 800 homes over the next four years, subject to signing an investment contract with the Homes and Communities Agency.

It is hoped that the homes will be built across the Leeds City Region which includes Barnsley, Bradford, Calderdale, Craven, Harrogate, Kirklees, Leeds, Selby, Wakefield and York.

The Leeds City Region (LCR) Partnership brings together a group of 11 local authorities from across an area in which people travel to work and leisure to promote economic development and a better quality of life for Yorkshire’s communities.

Ged Walsh, Business and Development Director at Yorkshire Housing, said: “With the house building budget cut by 63 per cent and a desperate shortage of affordable homes this is welcome news for the Leeds city region.

“We have identified some sites for the new homes.”
