Airman's career takes off as he engineers a lofty job opportunity

THE sky's the limit for a young Yorkshire airman who has landed a prestigious job helping the Red Arrows perform their world-famous displays.

Flight Lieutenant Andy Bryant, 29, a former pupil of Ashville College, Harrogate, has been selected as a Junior Engineering Officer, responsible for day-to-day engineering operations.

He will also lead a team of ten engineers known as "Circus", who are each assigned to a specific aircraft and pilot throughout the summer display season.

The job will give Fl Lt Bryant the chance to travel as a passenger in a Red Arrows' two-seat Hawk aircraft on journeys to over 90 display venues throughout the UK and Europe – flying at speeds of more than 350mph.

Once his aircraft arrives at the display's operating base, he will be responsible for servicing it before it can take off again.

He was inspired to join the RAF by his father who recently retired as a Warrant Officer.

He said: "It has given me some fantastic career opportunities but being selected for the Red Arrows is definitely one of the highlights. I'm really looking forward to the display season."
