Airport inrevised planfor morenight flights

COMMUNITIES close to Doncaster’s Robin Hood Airport are to be asked to comment on revised proposals to increase the number and size of aircraft using the site at night.

Peel Airports, which owns the terminal, produced a scheme last January in which managers unveiled plans to allow noisier aircraft to use the terminal during the hours of darkness.

But the ideas were opposed by councillors representing villages on the take-off and landing approach, who said the quality of life of residents would be adversely affected.

The plans were withdrawn, but an amended scheme has now been submitted to Doncaster Council, which said it would open the debate to the public again.

When Robin Hood Airport opened several years ago, a series of planning conditions were imposed to limit the number of noisy aircraft using the runway at night.

But under the Peel Airport proposals, that restriction would be removed, with bosses saying that there would be no more than 100 large aircraft movements a year.

A spokesman for Doncaster Council said: “Currently a ban exists on noisier aircraft flying in and out of the airport at night. The consultation documents seek to amend the number and types of planes that may operate at night.

“Letters have been sent to interested parties such as local parish and town councils and residents who have previously objected to this proposal.

“This will ensure people who may be affected are aware of the consultation and have an opportunity to comment.”

Documents supporting the application can be viewed at Doncaster Council’s planning offices or on the council’s website.

The consultation period ends officially on January 25, but the council said representations would be accepted until the application is dealt with in February.
