Alert as man tries to pull girl into car

The 16-year-old was walking between Haxey and Westwoodside at about 9.30pm on Thursday when a man in a dark green Ford hatchback pulled up and tried to pull her into the car when she refused a lift.

The girl managed to break free.

Det Chief Insp Bob Clark said: “We are treating this as a serious incident and would like to remind females in particular to be vigilant when out walking alone. It is advisable to avoid any isolated locations and to consider carrying a panic alarm in order to alert anyone else in the area you are walking in should you feel vulnerable or uncomfortable by an approach from a stranger.

“I would also ask for parents to make sure children and young people are aware of the risks if approached by someone who isn’t known to them.”

The suspect is in his late 40s to early 50s and tanned.
