All present and correct for festive charity fundraiser

HUNDREDS of people dressed as Father Christmas pounded the streets of a Yorkshire town yesterday as part of an annual fun run which raised money for three charities.

The starting gun was fired at 11am for the Great Skipton Santa Fun Run and runners set off first, followed by joggers and then those who were walking the 5km course.

Skipton’s Aireville Park, on Gargrave Road, was a sea of red and white before the event began, taking runners on a route along the town’s canal towpath, High Street, Otley Street and Regent Road.

Families and teams were particularly encouraged to take part, with the £10 entry fee for adults and £5 for children securing each runner their own suit and hat and preferably white beard.

The run was organised by the Rotary Club of Skipton Craven and this year was held in aid of Manorlands Hospice, which is run by Sue Ryder Care in Oxenhope and Martin House Children’s Hospice in Boston Spa.

Cash raised will also be donated to the Upper Wharfedale Fell Rescue Association and used for projects which are run by the Rotary Club for children, the elderly and the disabled in the Skipton area.

Organisers of the 2011 fun run were hoping that yesterday’s event would beat last year’s fundraising total, which saw about 400 people take part and more than £11,000 raised for charity.
