All square for sculptor

SCULPTOR Michael Johnson supervised the installation of his eight-metre high work yesterday as part of preparations for the opening of Doncaster’s new public square which will take place over the weekend.

He said the piece incorporates themes which represent the life of the town since it was a Roman settlement, and its name, Danum, is the Roman name for Doncaster.

It stands in the newly created Sir Nigel Gresley Square, at the centre of the town’s civic and cultural quarter, which is still under construction. PICTURE: Chris lawton
