The new 250,000sq ft centre will begin dealing with customer orders in the autumn and the retailer announced this morning that its new base will create over 300 jobs over the next three years.

“Our existing Doncaster team has done an exceptional job of delivering a first rate level of service for our customers and we are delighted to open another site which will further draw upon the strong pool of talent in the area,“ said John Tagawa, vice president of operations, Amazon UK.

Mayor of Doncaster, Ros Jones, said: “This excellent news emphasises that Doncaster is open for business, and I am delighted that so many jobs have been created.

“Amazon’s decision to open this centre in Doncaster shows our strength as a logistics hub, and emphasises how much our economy is growing.”

The new site in Doncaster is located on Water Vole Way, a short distance from Amazon’s existing site on Balby Carr Bank which opened in 2010.

Amazon already has eight centres in UK, located in areas including Doncaster, Dunfermline, Hemel Hempstead, Peterborough, and Swansea Bay, with over 7,000 people working at the sites. A ninth centre is due to open in Dunstable later this year.
